New years is soon, so here are ten songs that have made this year what it is, whatever that is. No particular order. (P.s, I made a tumblr blog, FUCK tumblr is all I have to say, most confusing blog thing to use, that also only allows one embedded video at a time or something, whatever, I am in a rage now.)
Gaslight Anthem - Miles Davis and The Cool
No emotions attached to this one, just lots of good memories, or memories of treking though unplowed snow to get to work in Dartmouth, before sunrise.
Elvis Costello - Watching The Detectives
This one is just bad ass and made my summer of loner a lot better. Will be a favorite for the rest of my life I’m sure.
Brand New - Jesus
This one has some meaning. This album will always remind me of Alex, around the time he died I had been listening to this album almost constantly, mostly this song. Seeing Brand New this year was surreal and this song was for sure my favorite.
The Smiths - Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
This one is in my top ten for the year as well as my top ten Smiths songs. I am praying that next year I will see Morrissey.
Jose Gonzales - Save Your Day
Just a perfect song, listened to it on repeat a lot this fall.
Weakerthans - Left and Leaving
Enough said.
Morrissey - Seasick, Yet Still Docked
It just makes a lot of sense for this to be here.
Neutral Milk Hotel - Two Headed Boy Pt 2
Piebald - American Hearts
This one should just be on every list for the rest of eternity.
LAST. but not least.
The Early November - Everything’s So Cold… But Your So Hot
I did a lot of remember old favorites this year, and since it is a decade I suppose you could even say a song for each year.
This year was a big mix up of everything, it started out TERRIBLE and hasn’t really gotten great, but I’ve done a billion awesome things and I have a zillion more awesome things to look forward to in the future. New Years is no big deal anyway, just another day as fas as I am concerned and I will continue to live my life as a true playa for life. Making list and reflecting on a year is just an interesting and fun experience. I go home for Christmas in 8 days, I can’t wait, I think this short little visit will remind me that Halifax isn’t actually as terrible as it seems when you live there. I miss my friends.
